WHO DEVELOPED THE CRYOTHERAPY TECHNOLOGY?
Whole body Cryotherapy was originally developed in Japan in 1978, and the benefits have been studied and refined in Europe since that time.
HOW DOES CRYOTHERAPY WORK?
The Synergy Cryosauna uses gasiform nitrogen to lower the client’s skin surface temperature from normal body temperature to 30°F in 30 seconds or less and keeps it that way for 2-3 minutes. This phenomena results in en energy boost and skin rejuvenation. That effect lasts from 1 1/2 to 3 hours. When the client’s exterior skin surface is cooled to these levels, the immune system is stimulated, and every organ in the body is affected positively. The skin reacts to the cold and sends messages to the brain that acts as a stimulant to the regulatory functions of the body. It produces the scanning of all areas that may not be working to their fullest potential. The biochemical processes that occur at this time consume a great quantity of energy. It is believed that this process is responsible for fat loss reported by many users.
IS NITROGEN DANGEROUS TO HUMAN BEINGS?
No. Nitrogen is a non-toxic gas. The air that we breathe is made up of 16% Oxygen, 1% Hydrogen, 78% Nitrogen and 5% of other components.
IS IT COMFORTABLE? WHAT DO I WEAR?
Before entering the Cryosauna, clients are required to dress in protective clothing composed of cotton socks (which are provided) and underwear. Only your hands and face are visible to the operator during the procedure, so modesty is preserved at all times. Additionally, it is a dry, gaseous cold. Which means the treatment is tolerable even to those who may consider themselves cold-intolerant.
HOW DO I FEEL AFTER I FINISH A TREATMENT?
During each session the body releases endorphins, which are hormones that make you feel good and energetic. The buoyant effects from each session last at least 6-8 hours and increase with number of treatment sessions. Many clients have expressed that they have the best night of sleep after a Cryo session.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS SHOULD I TAKE TO ACHIEVE OPTIMAL RESULTS?
Depending on the condition of treatment, you should initially take 7-10 treatments in close succession (separated by 1-2 days - e.g. 3x/week) to maximize your results. After that you can use fewer treatments spaced further apart to maintain and improve on your results (e.g. once every week or two weeks).
CAN I CATCH A COLD BECAUSE OF THIS PROCEDURE?
No. The immediate cold impact of the Cryosauna will raise the internal body temperature for a short period of time. The stimulation of the immune system can help decrease the severity and frequency of future colds.
I AM CLAUSTROPHOBIC. MAY I USE WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY?
Yes, you may. The door is never locked and you may step out at any moment. The chamber is open to the top and your head is raised above the level of the upper rim of the chamber. Additionally, you can see our provider at all times and we try to keep you distracted for your 2½ - 3 minute treatment.
DO I HAVE TO TAKE A SHOWER BEFORE AND/OR AFTER A CRYOTHERAPY SESSION?
No, you don’t. This process does not make your skin wet. We have many clients who pop over during a lunch break or on their way to work!
ARE THERE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS TO WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY?
Some contraindications are pregnancy, severe Hypertension (BP> 180/100), acute or recent myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, arrhythmia, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, cardiac pacemaker, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, venous thrombosis, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident, uncontrolled seizures, Raynaud’s Syndrome, fever, tumor disease, symptomatic lung disorders, bleeding disorders, severe anemia, infection, cold allergy, acute kidney and urinary tract diseases.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY?
Whole Body Cryotherapy is very well tolerated and has minimal risks: Fluctuations in blood pressure during the procedure by up to 10 points systolically (this effect reverses after the end of the procedure, as peripheral circulation returns to normal), allergic reaction to extreme cold (rare), claustrophobia, anxiety, activation of some viral conditions (cold sores) etc. due to stimulation of the immune system.
WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE SYSTEMS OF THE BODY DURING THE CRYO SESSION?
Skin: The outer skin is briefly ‘frozen’, activating increased production of collagen in deeper layers of the skin (similar to lasers treatments of the face, where very hot temperatures are used). The skin regains elasticity and becomes smoother and even-toned, significantly improving conditions such as cellulite and skin aging. Skin vessels and capillaries undergo severe vasoconstriction (to keep the core temperature from dropping), followed by vasodilation after the procedure. Toxins and other stored deposits are flushed out of the layers of the skin and blood perfusion is improved after several treatments. The anti-inflammatory properties of cryotherapy are also used to treat chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis and dermatitis.
Endocrine: The extreme cold exposure causes to the body to turn up its metabolic rate in order to produce heat. This effect lasts for 5-8 hours after the procedure, causing the body to ‘burn’ 500 – 800 Kcal over the hours following the procedure. After several procedures, the increase in metabolic rate tends to last longer between treatments. Another ‘survival reaction’ to the extreme temperatures is the release of endorphins (hormones) that have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, and improve mood disorders. Cryotherapy has been studied for the successful treatment of medication resistant depressive disorders. Patients furthermore experience a noticeable increase in libido, lending to the use of cryotherapy for ED and other sexual disorders.
Musculoskeletal: The anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of cryotherapy can drastically improve joint disorders such as rheumatoid- and osteoarthritis. Athletes are using whole body cryotherapy to recover from injuries and improve their performance.
Immune System: Cryotherapy improves the function of the immune system and decreases stress levels
